Single Vineyard Designate Wines
Our Vineyard Designate Wines focus on rich, ripe flavors, lush textures, and long finishes. These wines are made from grapes harvested with some measure of extended hang time. Each cluster is hand sorted and anything other than a perfect berry is removed on the sorting table. The fruit is de-stemmed, lightly crushed, and then cold soaked for up to a week. Fermentation is normally done slowly. At three degrees brix we move the wine to barrel. By finishing the wine’s fermentation in barrel we gain an added layer of texture and suppleness. All our designate wines are aged 18 months in French Oak. Our primary cooperages are Remond and Francois Freres. The percentage of new oak will vary from 33% to 50% depending on vintage.
Currently we make Single Vineyard Designate Wines from Kemp Vineyard and Kick Ranch. Vineyards we farm and manage.
Appellation Wines
Our Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is our only Appellation Wine. We believe the pinot from this area provides exceptional depth of flavor, elegance and balance. This wine is made from grapes harvested when ripeness, acidity, and tannins are in harmony. For us, pinot noir should be layered flavors, with a structured and clean finish. In other words, a wine made for a great meal. French Oak barrels are used for aging the wines. We normally age the wine for twelve months in 40% new oak and a combination of one and two year old oak. We use the same fermentation technique as in the single vineyard designate wines.
Our pinot noir is made from hand selected grape lots from vineyards we farm in the Russian River Valley.
Tusque Wines
Tusque is an ancient word from a regional French dialect that translates “the old lands”. Our Blanc du Tusque, Rose du Tusque, and Rouge du Tusque pay homage to the traditions of the French country life and its long history of understanding food and wine as inseparable.
These wines are all made from grapes whose heritage stems from the southern regions of France. Viognier, Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Counoise, and Syrah form the backbone of our wines. All are farmed by our family.
Grapes are picked to insure a balance of fruit ripeness and natural acidity. These wines are perfect for pairing with food. The rose and white wines are aged in a combination of neutral French oak and stainless steel. Our rouge is aged in 100% French oak. We may use up to 10% new oak if the vintage warrants, but this wine is predominately aged in 2 year old and neutral barrels. |
